Wockhardt Foundation in association with Rotary Club of Mumbai Bay View organised the 1st Annual Social Commitment Conclave ‘Jai Mumbai 2009, an event to pay tribute to the martyrs of 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks.

Present at the occasion to express solidarity against terrorism and pay tribute to the martyrs were Dr. Shubha Raul, Mayor of Mumbai, Dr. (Mrs) Indu Shahani, Hon’ble Sheriff of Mumbai, Shri Julio F Ribeiro, Former Commissioner of Mumbai, Shri Sanjay Nirupam, Hon'ble Member of Parliament, North Mumbai, Mr. N.P.S. Aulakhe, Director General, National Security Guard (NSG), Mr. Ness Wadia, Jt. MD, Wadia Group and Mr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, CEO, Wockhardt Foundation among others.

Dr.(Mrs.) Shubha Umesh Raul , Hon'ble Mayor Of Mumbai in her address to the conclave condemned terrorism. Mr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, CEO, Wockhardt Foundation paid homage to the martyrs present at the event and gave away mementos to the family of the police and security officials who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the attacks.

The event witnessed people from all the walks of life - politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen, artists, social activists and common people come together to condemn terrorism and discuss the role of citizens in bringing peace and harmony in the society, and managing threats of terrorism.

Other eminent figures who were part of this memorable event were Mr. Paul Folmsbee, Consulate General, US Consulate, Dr. P. Sekhar, CMD, Micro Technologies (India) Ltd., Mr. Suhel Seth, Managing Partner, Counselage India and Founder of Equus, Major General (Retd.) A K Gupta, SM, VSM, Mr. Javed Jafferi, Actor, Mr. Jackie Shroff, Actor and Ms. Anita Shantaram, President, Rotary Club Mumbai Bay View.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, Wockhardt Foundation, said,” Jai Mumbai is a small Tribute to the Martyrs who laid down their life against terrorism. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of all the brave officers and soldiers who lost their life fighting in a tragic and rather mournful incident this same day a year ago. The sacrifices of the 14 policemen from the Mumbai Police and 3 from the NSG will always be remembered for a long-long time to come.”

He further added “The stories of our courageous officers of NSG, Home Guard, Police, and various other leaders across all spectrum of society should be told and re-told to our children in order to inculcate national pride and patriotic fervour among our youth. Only when we are no longer afraid...
