A competition on ‘Leadership’ was organized on 15th December, 2009 at Kamla High School, Madhu Park, Khar (W) from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.
The competition consisted of elocution (speech) and project work on leaders.
The students of three schools participated in the competition:
1. Kamla High School, Madhu Park, Khar (W)
2. Rameshwar Vidyamandir, Vakola , Santacruz (E)
3. Public High School, Vakola, Santacruz (E)
The competition began with a prayer song presented by the students of the host school, Kamla High School. The principal, Mrs. Rekha Jagasia, welcomed the Rotarians and the participating schools. This was followed by a speech by Mrs. Anita Shantaram, President, Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview.
4 teams took part in the project work. The students had prepared projects consisting of write-up and pictures on Mahatma Gandhi, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The team members were asked questions about the leader on whom they had prepared their project.
20 students took part in the elocution competition and it was a pleasure to listen to the students speaking on the leader of their choice. The students spoke on leaders from varied fields. They spoke on leaders like Mahatam Gandhi, Azim Premji, J.R.D.Tata, Kiran Bedi, Walt Disney, Sachin Tendulkar, Mother Teresa, Kalpana Chawla, etc.
The winners were decided on the basis the basis of content and presentation.
5 winners were selected as follows.
1. Rameshwar Vidyamandir – Project work on Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam
• Team members: Pranay Rambhade, Akshay Jadhav and Mandar Ambelkar
2. Mumtaz Khan , Kamla High School, Khar (W) – Elocution – 1st prize
3. Sandeep Pandey, , Kamla High School, Khar (W) – Elocution – 2nd prize
4. Sneha Patil , Kamla High School, Khar (W) – Elocution – 3rd prize
5. Shubham Pande, Public High School, Santacruz (E) – 4th prize.
The competition ended with the distribution of notebooks on ethics and snacks to all the participating students as well as the students in the audience. A total of 100 students attended. The principal, Mrs. Rekha Jagasia and the parents as well as teachers from the participating schools said that the competition was a very good exposure and opportunity to the students to showcase their talent apart from being a rich learning experience.
